In large-scale mining, operational continuity is non-negotiable. When three plants—a sulfide concentrator and two hydrometallurgical operations—depend on the same supply system, reliability is no longer a promise but a critical requirement.

Today, we want to share the successful commissioning of a large-scale seawater pumping system designed to ensure continuous supply, hydraulic stability, and maximum operational availability in extreme conditions.

SEAWATER TRANSPORT AT AN ALTITUDE OF 1,700 METERS: ENGINEERING APPLIED TO MINING REALITY

This system transports water 120 kilometers from the coast, crossing the desert and raising it to 1,700 meters above sea level.

To achieve this, four pumping stations were implemented in series, configured to operate under high pressures and demanding manometric heights.

The system integrates VOGT BB1 and BB3 equipment under API standards, specifically designed for highly critical mining applications.

From the customer's perspective, this translates into:

  • Sustained operational reliability
  • Reduced risk of unscheduled downtime
  • Stability in the supply of process water
  • Compliance with international standards (API)
  • Design prepared for extreme pressure and altitude conditions
CRITICAL SYSTEM FOR THREE MINING PLANTS: AVAILABILITY AS A CENTRAL FOCUS

When a system supplies multiple operations simultaneously, any deviation directly impacts production.

Therefore, this project was conceived with a focus on:

  • Strategic redundancy in stations
  • Selection of high hydraulic performance equipment
  • Engineering geared toward energy efficiency and mechanical robustness
  • Rigorous control at every stage: design, manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning

The result is a seawater propulsion system designed for continuous operation, minimizing operational risks and ensuring process stability.

MORE THAN A PROJECT: TECHNICAL VALIDATION FOR LARGE-SCALE FLUID TRANSPORT

This milestone positions us in a new category within large-scale fluid transport. It is not just a matter of commissioning, but of consolidating key capabilities for our customers:

  • Specialized high-pressure engineering
  • Integration of complex systems
  • Industrial capacity for large-scale projects
  • Technical rigor under international standards

For our mining clients, this means having a partner capable of tackling highly complex hydraulic challenges, with proven technical support in the field.

SEAWATER PUMPING FOR SUSTAINABLE MINING

Seawater pumping has become a strategic solution for modern mining, allowing for a reduction in the use of continental sources and a move towards more sustainable operating models.

This type of infrastructure not only enables production, but also allows for continuity, water resilience, and adaptation to environmental challenges.

Are you evaluating a seawater pumping system for your operation?

If your operation requires long-distance water transport, significant elevations, or highly critical pumping systems, we can accompany you from conceptual engineering to commissioning.

Our approach combines:

  • ➡️ Advanced hydraulic design
  • ➡️ Equipment selection under API or other standards
  • ➡️ Comprehensive project management
  • ➡️ Specialized technical support

Reliability is not an additional attribute in mining: it is the foundation on which the entire operation is based.
